First interview, talking about MappInect with Tom Smurthwaite

Tom Smurthwaite [co-author @ Kinect-Hacks.net and maintainer of KinectEducation] has been enjoying the concept of MappInect, and decided to contact me to know more about all of that.

See below the link to his blog and this interview :

All means are good to find motivation, i find mine in knowing that people enjoy what i do.

MappInect alpha released ! MappInect Builder coming soon

Finally, the first alpha version of MappInect is out, i still need to clean up a bit and add comments in the sources.
If you didn’t see my last post about this suite and don’t know what’s BiKinect or MappInect, check it out here.

I’ve got time to record a new demo, showing live MIDI and OSC mapping in the same time with Ableton Live and Flash.
And because i don’t like to discriminate anybody (even Mac users !), the soft is compatible with Windows, Mac OS and Linux. The project is hosted at googlecode, check it there: go to the googlecode page.

A full documentation is on its way, with all the shortcuts, the mappings description. Also, i’m developing a user-interface called MappInect Builder which is a node base mapping builder. That way, people won’t have to understand XML or whatsoever to do fun stuffs !
This software is under Creative Commons Open Source license, under the name of Curious Project.

Hope you enjoy it !

Here’s a preview of what the builder will look like :

BiKinect Tool Suite v0.1 – MappInect alpha preview

I’m pleased to show you my software MappInect, part of my new Kinect Tool Suite named BiKinect.

MappInect is a modular mapper that has been made for artists and developers, to make the conception and development of live performances easier.

It is about getting about any information we need from the user and sending them to other softwares like ableton live, flash, unity, or pretty much whatever you want.

It retrieves skeletal information from the Kinect and processes them depending on mapping rules located in an user defined xml file.

SimProj Project : A Multitouch setup simulator

SimProj ScreenshotRecently i had to make some plans for an MT table, but i found the shockwave calculator (“rearproject”) too slow and memory sucking. Besides, changing projection width/height ratio is impossible…

So i started a new project in Processing, the aim being having a similar simulator but faster and maybe with more options.

Currently it’s only in 2D, unlike the rearproject. But i’ve release the sources now, so feel free to make some improvements ! Please notify me if you’re modifying it, so i can follow the progression of it.

The software is now downloadable as an application (see attached file) and is crossplatform. However, the minor updates will be firstly /only online.

View the project online (java required) : http://benjamin.kuperberg.fr/simproj

Download the application (All platforms, sources included) : SimProj 0.95 (23/07/2010)

This application uses the controlP5 library : you can download it here : http://www.sojamo.de/libraries/controlP5/
